Friends of Pulaski raises money to support Pulaski International School of Chicago through a variety of efforts including our Fun Run, Matching Campaign, Gala, monthly donations and special dine-out at local restaurants. These funds enrich school experiences, address capital improvements, and support our classroom and teachers. You may review some of our recent project descriptions here.
Friends of Pulaski wrote and obtained a grant from Lowe’s Companies, Inc. for building materials and received hours of donated labor from an architect, a contractor, and more than a dozen parents to (1) enclose a previously exposed transformer located only feet from the school’s main playground equipment with an attractive, composite-wood fence and (2) build three large matching benches nearby.
Auditorium Audio-Visual Equipment
After suffering through countless events in the auditorium where it was difficult to hear through the portable speaker or see the presentation on a dim classroom projector, it is no wonder that students, teachers and parents all wanted to invest in this important space.
Boosting Classroom Technology for grades K-2
Before this project, each classroom had 2 or 3 old desktops in the corner. They were used infrequently as there were not enough to go around. Teachers also complained of their dim projectors and shaky document cameras. Friends of Pulaski worked with teachers and the Tech Coordinator to select a technology package to better support the IB framework of instruction.
In October 2012 the Friends of Pulaski were awarded a $5,000 Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation (LCEF) Toolbox for Education program grant for the improvement of Pulaski International School of Chicago located at 2230 W. McClean in Chicago, IL. The project was the culmination of 5 months of work by the FOP Facilities Committee (FOPFC), the Outdoor Classroom Committee (OCC), Christy Weber Landscapes and Bartlett Tree Service.
Working with teachers, staff members, IT groundbreakers at other schools and the Principal, Friends of Pulaski helped formulate a plan to better allocate and supplement the existing computer hardware at Pulaski International.
Gym Wall Pads
Combining both our fundraising and volunteer resources, Friends of Pulaski was able to procure and install 5′ wall pads around the perimeter of the gymnasium. The new pads, in Pulaski Saber colors, not only make the space much safer for students, but also dampen sound and brighten up the space.
Outdoor Trash Cans
The FOP decided it was time to give everyone a better way to “Pitch In” and clean up our school grounds by installing permanent trashcans in key locations. The new cans are “Pulaski Green and Gold”, our school colors, and add some vibrant color to the grounds year round. They also have a separate slot for recycling so we can make sure our Sabers stay green.
